Auto Insurance Requirements

The state of Indiana legally requires all residents that own a car to obtain insurance.  Your auto policy must meet the following minimum liability limits:

  • Bodily injury for each person for $25,000
  • Bodily injury for each accident for $50,000
  • Property damage coverage for $10,000

Liability only covers you if you cause property damage or bodily injury to another person or property while operating a vehicle.  It also protects you if someone sues you.  It is not our recommendation to have the state required minimums.  Our recommendation is for higher minimum limits ($100,000/$300,000/$100,000) so that you and your family are protected from personally being liable for accidents in a worst case scenario.  Our team will review your personal financial situation to make a specific recommendation that may be higher amounts of coverage to better suit your needs.

Auto Insurance Coverage

Here is what’s covered by auto insurance:

  • Collision: If your car is damaged following an accident with another driver, this covers your expenses to repair or replace your vehicle.
  • Comprehensive: If your car is damaged by vandalism, storms, theft, or animals, this will cover the expenses of having your vehicle repaired or replaced.
  • Uninsured/underinsured: This protects you if a driver who doesn’t have insurance hits your vehicle. It will also cover hit-and-run accidents and pay for lost wages and medical expenses.
  • Medical payments: This covers medical expenses for you and your passengers following an accident, regardless of fault.
  • Towing: If, at any point, your vehicle needs a tow, this will reimburse you for those expenses.
  • Personal injury protection: This covers particular medical expenses and loss of wages following an accident.
